Hij huwde op 15-10-1919 met Johanna Jacoba Maria de Graaf, geboren op 31-10-1895 te Rotterdam, overleden 02-04-1973 aldaar, dochter van Pieter de Graaf en Maria Elizabeth de Otter. Cornelis en Johanna woonden voor de oorlog op de Kruiskade, na het bombardement korte tijd op de Schiedamsesingel en daarna op de 1e Middelandstraat. Nelis was van beroep timmerman en ging op jonge leeftijd werken bij de plaatselijke Telefoondienst, de latere P.T.T., en bleef daar tot zijn pensioen. Men noemdehem daar Cees.
