In de periode 1887 tot 1900 is Berend Horstman (1849-1925) eigenaar/bewoner van “de Kroone”. Hij en zijn broers Jan en Hendrikus, die op de nabij gelegen “de Nieuwe Krone” wonen, hebben in maart 1894 bij elkaar zo’n fl. 37.000,- geleend, tegen 4% rente, met als hypotheekstelling hun huis, erf en land. In de leenakten is opgenomen dat wanneer Berend niet aan zijn verplichtingen kan voldoen de geldversterkker (mr van Naamen van Eemnes ) het recht heeft wegens de leningen verschuldigde bedragen direct op te eisen, met zo nodig, openbare verkoping van de betreffende goederen.

Kennelijk kunnen zij niet meer aan hun verplichtingen voldoen want mr Naamen, hij is de voorzitter van de Eerste Kamer der Staten- Generaal en woont in Huize Zandhove te Zwollerkerspel, besluit tot publieke verkoping.

Op maandag 2 juli 1900 wordt de Kroone publiekelijk verkocht. Bij akte van 2-7-1900 nr 74, wordt na de gehouden veiling, de koop gegund aan Derk Grootenhuis, landbouwer te Wijhe. De koopsom is fl. 15.700,- . Op 19-2-1901 wordt de huisraad en het vee van Horstman verkocht en twee maanden later verhuist hij met zijn gezin naar de Kerkstraat in Beilen.

Jan en Hendrikus Horstman zijn na de verkoop van de boedel in 1900 in Heino gaan wonen en hebben daar een boerderijtje van 1,5 ha gekocht. Een groot verschil met de weelde waarin de familie een eeuw eerder leefde!
