Gradus Vrieze getrouwd 1872 hoefde niet in militaire dienst vanwege
broederdienst.

Gradus Vrieze, geb. 21 dec. 1846, staat in het dienstbodenregister van Epe deel 29 blz. 97 ingeschreven in Zuuk huisnr 306 Hij vertrok 13 juli 1872 (zijn trouwdatum) naar Heerde. Hij woonde in huis bij Johannes Berkhoff die eigenaar was van de Zuuker korenmolen. Dat is de noordelijke van de watermolens die nu van de VMI zijn. Johannes was de oom van de bruid van Vrieze! Het windmolenaarsvak moest Gradus dus ws. nog leren toen hij de molen pachtte!

Hij pachtte op 24 april 1872 ingaande 1 mei 1872 en eindigende 30 april 1878, dus voor zes jaar, van Henri Thierry Daendels te St Cloud in de VS, een koren- olie- en pelmolen met woonhuis, bakhuis, tuin- bouw- en weiland te Wapenveld. De twee zuidelijke kamers van het huis zijn uitgezonderd. (Not. Arch. Heerde inv. nr. 3330, akte 6440) Voorwaarde: de huurder moet voor de verhuurder olie slaan tegen een vergoeding van een gulden per hektoliter. De huur bedroeg 535 gulden per jaar. De borg was Hendrikus Berkhoff, meester timmerman te Epe
(schoonpa dus!)
Hendrikus Berkhoff is borg gebleven en tevens eigenaar tot 1887.
Zelfstandig eigenaar van de molen werd Gradus Vrieze op 27 oktober 1887 (not arch inv. nr. 3344, aktenr 144 en 156) Hij koopt de molen dan van de familie Berkhoff, zijn zwagers en vrouw. De molen heeft in de akte geen naam. De Berkhoffs hadden hem gekocht 6, 20 en 27 sep 1875. Na inzet en hoging tot een bedrag van 2050 gulden, is de molen op een hogere som opgehangen en heeft Gradus Vrieze hem zelf gemijnd op 2300 gulden. Korenmolen met woonhuis (niets meer over olie- en pelwerk) en ongeveer 2,5 hektare grond.
In de akte van 1875, inv. nr. 3332, aktenr 7090 - 7103 - 7107 verkoopt Daendels de molen aan Hendrikus Berkhoff. Het is dan nog de Wapvenveldse koren- olie- pelmolen met dubbele molenaarswoning en in totaal 2,80 ha
grond kad C 26 t/m 36
