Jan was natuurlijk een goede zakenman. Hij wilde natuurlijk graag dat reizigers uit b.v. Zwolle even bij hem uitstapten om wat te drinken en te eten. Als ze dan de naam ,,Wapen van Overijssel" zagen, waren ze wellicht eerder toe geneigd.

Jan was de laatste eigenaar van de herberg, want op 26-6-1861 werd deze verkocht aan Evert Jan v Apeldoorn en Harmen ten Hove, die ze op 6-9-1861 weer doorverkochten aan Geesje Docter voor 6000 gulden.
