Notes about Roelof Eikelboom
In Hoogeveen had Roelof Eikelboom een scheepswerf voor houten schepen op de hoek van Het Haagje en het Omkanaal. Hij wilde overschakelen naar de bouw van ijzeren schepen maar had daarvoor niet de kennis. Hij kwam in contact met Dirk Johannes Rijnvis. In 1894 huurden ze samen een scheepswerf op het Slood (Alteveerstraat) in Hoogeveen en bouwden ze stalen tjalken, aken en klipperaken. Roelof Eikelboom en Dirk Johannes Rijnvis kregen onenigheid over de bouw van een ijzeren schip in opdracht van een Hoogeveense schipper en besloten in 1909 uit elkaar te gaan
