Notes about Maria "Mie" Moors

In het verleden lagen de dorpen in de Kempen nogal geïsoleerd. Toen in 1897 de tramlijn Eindhoven - Reusel tot stand kwam, bevorderde dat de komst van industrieën. Vooral de sigarenindustrie ging een belangrijke plaats innemen. Vele kleine fabriekjes ontstonden, maar een groot deel daarvan verdween weer in de loop der jaren. Een vrouw die veel gebruik maakte van de tram in die tijd was Mie Moors. Zij gebruikte dit snelle vervoermiddel om naar de markt in Eindhoven te gaan. Maria (Mie) Moors (geboren te Eersel op 8 juni 1872, overleden te Eindhoven op 9 mei 1965) was een van de meest karakteristieke personen uit het dorp. Zij trouwde vijf keer; de eerste keer in 1897, de laatste keer in 1939. Met haar vijfde echtgenoot bleef zij ruim 25 jaar getrouwd. Mie Moors was koopvrouw en handelde in eieren, kippen, konijnen en jonge bokken. Daarmee trok zij te voet door de Kempen. Er staat een standbeeld van haar op de Markt naast het Gemeentehuis(
