Notes about Jacobus Moonen

Geboren te Gestel op 27 februari 1829, overleden te Gestel op 14 september 1885, trouwt in juni 1863 met Jacoba Maria van Luijtelaer, geboren te Nuenen op 7 februari 1839 en overleden te Gestel op 5 december 1899.
In 1858 was Jacobus Moonen klerk ter secretarie in Gestel tegen een wedde van f3. Wat later woonde hij in het huis aan de Willige Blijk, dat zijn vader in 1842 had gekocht.
In 1860 werd Jacobus benoemd tot burgemeester en gemeentesecretaris van Gestel. In 1861 leidde hij zijn eerste raadsvergadering. Zijn wedde als burgemeester bedroeg toen f150 en als secretaris nog eens f225. Deze bedragen waren in 1868 (en ook nog in 1871) gestegen tot f250 resp. f375. In deze jaren wordt hij tevens fabrikant genoemd.
Op eigen verzoek nam Jacobus Moonen in 1874 ontslag als burgemeester en werd opgevolgd door E.G. van Gennip. Wel bleef hij gemeentesecretaris en raadslid tot zijn dood.
Jacobus was evenals zijn voorvaderen lid van het St. Catharinagilde.
Uit het huwelijk van Jacobus en Jacoba werden te Gestel 9 kinderen geboren.
