Notes about Michiel "Chiel" van den Hout

Michiel van den hout was fabrikant.
Chiel van den Hout en Sieke Dun trouwden in 1883 in Goirle en gingen wonen in de Bergstraat op nummer 39. Sieke had als enig kind dit huis geërfd van haar ouders.Ze werd ook wel "Sieke van de rijke wever' genoemd. Het huis was (zeker voor die tijd) zeer royaal met een diepe en brede tuin. Bovendien was er een werkplaats met gemetselde kuipen. Daar werd garen in verwerkt wat wevers weer verwerkten tot stukken. Chiel stond op de gemeentelijke lijst van de grootste belastingbetalers. Hij trok de belangstelling van Eduard van Puijenbroek (Havep) die zijn fabriekje over wilde nemen. Chiel ging daar niet op in.
