Frans was lid van de zesde generatie van de Bavaria-familie. Frans Swinkels uit Lieshout is op 8 februari na een ziekbed van enkele maanden op 80-jarige leeftijd rustig ingeslapen.
Frans Swinkels heeft zich 37 jaar ingezet voor het familiebedrijf. In 1962 kwam hij in dienst van Bavaria en tien jaar later trad hij toe tot de Raad van Bestuur. In 1999 is hij met pensioen gegaan, maar ook na die tijd bleef hij betrokken bij de brouwerij. Eerst als lid en later als voorzitter van de Raad van Commissarissen (tot 2009). Daarnaast is hij bestuurslid geweest van familieholding Ambrig, de beheermaatschappij van Bavaria.

Hij heeft veel betekend voor de ontwikkeling van de bottelarij en stond aan de wieg van de ontwikkeling van de huidige productielocatie in Lieshout.

Frans Swinkels heeft in zijn leven twee hoge katholieke onderscheidingen gekregen. Zo is hij benoemd tot Commandeur in de Ridderorde van het Heilig Graf van Jeruzalem en tot Ridder in de Orde van Sint Silvester.

Hij is lid van de zesde generatie van de familie Swinkels. Zijn vader is Piet Swinkels (1899 – 1969). Frans heeft een zoon en twee dochters. Zoon Pieter - zevende generatie - is directielid van Bavaria.
