In 1856 wordt er proces verbaal opgemaakt van het bestek en voorwaarden voor de aanleg van een aardebaan vanaf het huis bewoond door Klaas Siebes Wiersma te Hichtum tot aan de handwijzer bij de woning van Gosse Lieuwes Bootsma onder Burgwerd. Deze Gosse is de vader van zijn schoonzoon Symon.

Blijkbaar is Klaas Siebes een verdienstelijk ruiter, want op de harddraverij te Sneek op 10 augustus 1842 wint hij als eigenaar én als ruiter de derde prijs op een 'vos langstaart ruin'. Hij rijdt ook mee met een bruine langstaart merrie, en wordt daarmee 14e. In de paardenrace van 14 augustus 1844 te Sneek wordt hij zelfs tweede op een voskleurige kortstaart merrie.
