Beroep: boer, armenmeester 1686-1688, heemraad 1704, waardsman van de Vinkepolder 1684-1686 (lid van dijk- en polderbestuur).

In het trouwboek van Bleskensgraaf wordt Melis Aiense Verschoor vermeld als 'Jonge man van Sleeuwijk', wonende te Alblas. Ook bij de doop op 18-7-1683 te Woudrichem van het kind van Pieterken Ariens Verschoor en Matthijs van Balen, genaamd Adriaen (Arien) Hermense van Balen, treed ene Melis Ariens Verschoor als getuige op. Zeer waarschijnlijk is dit dezelfde persoon. Melis Ariense en Pieterken Ariens zijn derhalve broer en zus. Wordt vermeld als 'Nieuwenboer in Alblas',en vestigde zich als boer in de nieuwe Vinckepolder onder Alblas.

Mogelijk is hij niet in Alblasserdam, maar in Almkerk gestorven bij zijn oudste zoon Arien.

Melis trouwde na het overlijden van Neeltje nog tweemaal. De eerste keer in februari 1696 te Alblasserdam, met Marigje Dircks Decker. Daarna een laatste huwelijk op 14 januari 1703 te Alblasserdam met Arijaantje Cornelisse Blijgeest.

Melis Ariense Verschoor, gehuwd met Neeltje Klaesse Brand die inmiddels is overleden, verkoopt op 9 april 1696 aan zijn zwager Jacob Claesse 1 morgen, 410 roeden wei- hooi- en akkerland, door Neeltje geërfd van haar ouders.(Bron: "Protocol van opdrachten en kustingbrieven, Bleskensgraaf").

Uit een transcriptie gemaakt door de heer Oudshoorn van de hiervoor vermelde akte van de weeskamer blijkt het volgende: 'Comp: Melis Aeryense, weduwnaar van Neeltje Claes, ter eenre; Aryen Claesse en Jacob Claesse, oom en bloedvoogden van Aeryen Melisse, Claes Melisse, Teunis Melisse en Jacob Melisse, ter andere zijde. De vader zal de kinderen opvoeden'.

Melis Ariense Verschoor leende 400 gulden aan de diaconie (1697-1699): 9 jan 1700 'Ontfangen van Melis Aryens wegens sijn schoonvader Dirck Jansse Decker - zie zijn 2e huwelijk - vier hondert gulden cappitael en een jaer en agt maenden intrest vant voorn. cappitael de somme van 26.14,0, dus t' samen 426.14.0' (Bron: Ouweneel, ontvangsten diaconie). Hij was bij zijn overlijden minvermogend, maar werd voordien niet in de rekeningen van de diaconie aangetroffen, zodat hij kennelijk geen beroep op steun heeft hoeven te doen (Bron: Ouweneel, rekeningen diaconie).
