Beroep: Vertegenwoordiger van o.a. Glim schoenpoets en Oranjeboom-bier, en later eigenaar van een non-food groothandel te Woensdrecht. Op zijn Persoonskaart staan achtereenvolgens de volgende beroepen aangetekend: reiziger (vertegenwoordiger), controleur van chemische producten en tot slot handelsreiziger.

Jan is geboren in de Sluisstraat 27 te Breda. Daarna woonde hij van nov. 1928 tot nov. 1936 in de Poststraat 152 te Princenhage, van nov. 1936 tot maart 1937 in de Wernhoutscheweg 127 b, en van maart 1937 tot november 1949 aan de Wethouder Romboutsstraat 9 te Breda. Vanaf die maand woont hij met het gezin aan de Vijverberg 14 te Bergen op Zoom. In november 1959 verhuist hij naar de Augustalaan 264 in dezelfde stad. En vanaf 5 juni 1968 woont hij aan Zandfort 71 te Woensdrecht. Na zijn pensioen woont hij vanaf maart 1977 in Tholen, eerst op de Oudelandsestraat 24, en vanaf augustus 1986 op de Kuipersdreef. Uiteindelijk overlijdt Jan, na onder meer een korte periode in een verzorgingstehuis in Steenbergen, in verzorgingstehuis 'Ten Anker' in Tholen.

Op zijn Persoonskaart komt in vak 24 de aantekening DSK 43139 voor, dat wil zeggen: distributiestamkaart nr 43139. Deze kaart is tijdens de oorlog ingevoerd toen levensmiddelen e.d. wegens schaarste niet meer vrij te koop waren. Deze kaart was fraudegevoelig en is vervangen door een nieuwe distributiekaart, de 2e kaart. Dit is op Jan's persoonskaart aangetekend als: TD 236/496902.

Op 27 augustus 1941 krijgt Jan een aantekening op zijn Persoonskaart: PBB85/025041. De letters 'PB' staan voor PersoonsBewijs, een legitimatiebewijs dat in opdracht van de Duitse bezetter in de Tweede Wereldoorlog door iedere ingezetene bij zich moest worden gedragen ter legitimatie. Het nummer van het persoonbewijs werd door de gemeente aangetekend op de persoonskaart door de letters "PB" gevolgd door een volgnummer.

Jan was tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog actief in de meidagen van 1940 als wachtmeester van de artillerie (regiment II-3 R.A), dat werd ingezet in de Peel-Raamlinie (nabij Gemert). Op 13 mei 1940 werd zijn regiment aangevallen door Duitse Messerschmitt-jachtvliegtuigen in Schelluinen, waarbij drie doden en diverse gewonden vielen. Na de bevrijding van het zuiden van Nederland werd Jan chauffeur in het Britse leger, waarbij hij onder meer voorraden transporteerde van het noorden van Frankrijk naar de frontlinie bij de Maas en later naar het veroverde Duitsland. Hij was naar eigen zeggen de eerste geallieerde militair die (op een motor) Den Haag binnenreed na de bevrijding.
