Notes about Wouter Jans Christiaens Mous

Wouter Janssen Mous werd vermoord door Aert Peeter Nuijt Schuijpers uit Achtmaal. Deze moord werd verzoend volgens het oud-germaans recht waarbij de strafbepaling luidde: Twee jaar na de moord moest Aert Peeter Nuijt Schuijpers op Passiezondag 1614 in linnen hemd, barrevoets en blootshoofds met een kaars in de hand op zijn blote knieën vergiffenis vragen op het Heuvelplein. Voorwaarden vooraf waren: uitvaart, jaargetijde, gelag en gerechtkosten betalen, bijdragen in het herstel van 4 kerken in de omgeving, uit de buurt van de familie blijven en bij een toevallige ontmoeting in de herberg zijn glas leeg drinken en opstappen.

Wouter Janssen Mous was een hereboer met enorm veel eigendommen. Hij bezat een hoeve te Essen, twee hoeven te Zundert en nog een huis te Essen op de Heuvel. Dit huis werd bewoond door meier Wouter Heijmans.

Wouter was ook nog getrouwd met ene Maria Piers.
