In de napoleontische bureaucratie stond hij ingeschreven als 'Jean André de Krieger'. Op zijn doodsbericht in 1808 maakt zijn dochter Adriana bezwaar tegen de foutieve spelling van haar vader's naam. Hij wordt dan abusievelijk JAN CORNELIS DE KRIEGEL genoemd. In haar huwelijksakte met Franciscus Merki komt men daar nogmaals op terug. Zijn voornaam wordt doorgaans gespeld als ANDREAS.
