Notes about Haring Harinxma Thoe Heeg

Haring was een machtig grietman en Schieringer. Hij gebruikte ook de achternaam Donia, en wordt ook beschouwd als de vorvader van deze Friese familie Van Donia. Een andere naam die hij toevoegde was 'thoe Heeg', in de betekenis 'afkomstig uit Heeg, waar hij werd geboren en leefde.

De Schieringer partij verkoos hem als potestaat van Westergo (Zuid-west Friesland), samen met Sjoerd Wiarda van Gotum uit Oostergo (het oostelijke deel van Friesland) in hun strijd tegen de Graaf van Holland in 1399. Deze verkiezing van twee Schieringer postestaten leidde tot hernieuwd oplaaiend geweld tussen de Vetkopers en de Schieringers..

Zeventien 'Landsheeren' of Potestaten dienden Friesland, vanMagnus Forteman in 809 tot de laatste, Juw Dekama, van Baard in 1494. In 1498 leidde de voortdurende bloedige strijd tot een definitief ingrijpen door de Heilige Roomse Keizer Maximiliaan I, die de hertog van Saksen aanstelde als overerfbaar gouverneur van Friesland.

De monnik en historicus Petrus Thaborita schrijft in 1500 over "Haghe Haringfma", een commandant ("houeling"). Een beroemd nakomeling van Haring Harinxma was de beruchte Friese zeerover Grote Pier.
