Notes about Adriana de Graaf

Bij de aangifte van haar overlijden wordt geschreven: 'vrouw van WILLEM', maar hun kind Cornelia wordt bij haar geboorte geregistreerd als bastaard. Op 28 december 1781 wordt in het begrafenisboek van Willemstad melding gemaakt van "een onegt kind van Adriana de Graaff, pro deo." Wie de vader is, wordt er niet bij geschreven.

In de West-Brabantse doopboeken komt er in Willemstad geen Adriana de Graaf voor die rond 1750 geboren wordt. De meest waarschijnlijke (en enige echte) 'kandidaat' is de Adriana de Graaf die in 1748 geboren wordt in Oud-Gastel, als bastaardkind van ene Joanna de Graeff. De vader is niet bekend in het doopboek. Niet alleen de geboortedatum is een sterke aanwijzing dat dit de juiste persoon is. Een tweede aanwijzing is het feit dat haar zuster Adriana Cornelia heette, en namen in vroeger tijden sterk in de familie gebruikt beleven worden.
