Voor zijn huwelijk met Gijsbertha was Jacobus op 13 november 1762 al gehuwd met Johanna Goudhoever, met wie hij in 1763 te Utrecht een zoon kreeg, ook Jacobus geheten. In die huwelijksinschrijving wordt zijn achternaam gespeld als DORUS. In 1774 kreeg hij met Gijsbertha overigens weer een zoon die ze Jacobus noemden. De familie Dores was Rooms-Katholiek.
