Volgens overlevering werd deze Baron van Craeyencamp in 1566 door Philips II uit de adelstand gezet. Hij vluchtte met zijn jonge vrouw naar Munster in Westfalen en nam de naam Kraaijkamp aan. In 1572 keerden zij met twee zonen en een dochter naar Hoogland terug.
