Notes about Willem Claesz

Willem Claesz is nooit met achternaam aangetroffen. Zijn zoons Claes Willemsz van Abeel en Thonis Willemsz van Abeel worden vermeld in een akte van 29.09.1654 te Nieuwpoort, beide namens hun vrouw, voldaan te zijn als erfgenamen van Cornelis Janz Cuijck. Zij ondertekenen met hun achternaam. Op 01.10.1661 komen ze voor het eerst met achternaam in een Langerakse akte voor, als ze als landeigenaren worden genoemd. Wellicht is de naam Van Abeel in de familie gekomen via Willems grootmoeder Aefken Adriaensdr den Benschopper, die in haar laatste huwelijk (dat kinderloos bleef) met Willem Adriaens Bonheer, molenaar te Langerak, uit de familie Van Abeel, getrouwd was.
