Notes about Jacobus Brik

Beroep: kleermaker en timmerman. Ook zijn broer Jan Hendrik was kleermaker, maar dan in Arum. Het verhaal gaat dat beide ouders zijn overleden aan de Spaanse Griep, maar die kwam pas opzetten rond 1918 - 1919, zes jaar na het overlijden van Jacobus, en drie jaar na het overlijden van zijn vrouw Elisabeth.

In 1910 is Jacobus één van de verkopers van het ouderlijk huis te Witmarsum, samen met zijn broers en zusters. Uit hun toenmalige woonplaatsen is duidelijk hoe grootschalig de emigratie uit Friesland was in die tijd. Er zijn elf verkopers, allemaal geboren in Friesland, maar slechts twee ervan wonen ook daadwerkelijk nog aldaar. Benjamin woont in 1910 al in Neerbosch, bij Nijmegen.

Bij zijn keuring voor de dienstplicht was hij kleermakersknecht. Op 17 maart 1885 werd hij "tot den dienst aangenomen", ofwel goedgekeurd, en op 6 mei 1885 werd hij ingedeeld bij het 1e Regiment Infanterie. Hij werd op 5 mei 1892 'gepasporteerd' bij het 7e Regiment Infanterie. Bij de keuring waren zijn uiterlijke kenmerken:
