Notes about Cornelis Gielis Beys

Schepen (van 1539 t/m 1549) en Heilige Geestmeester van Princenhage, tevens eigenaar van herberg 'De vier heemskinderen'.

Zijn zoon Gielis Cornelis Beys vertrok in 1564 naar Antwerpen waar hij het drukkersvak leerde en trouwde daar met Magdalena (Madeleine) Plantijn, de 15-jarige dochter van de beroemde drukker, Kristoffel Plantijn. Bij de familie Plantijn was het portretteren in. Om die reden bestaat er dan ook een schilderij van de kleinzoon van de stichter van 'Het Roode Hert' (zie '475 Jaar Het Roode Hert'). Het hangt in het museum Plantin-Moretus aan de Vrijdagmarkt in Antwerpen. Volgens 'De Vlaamse Stam' van 1985 heeft Gielis waarschijnlijk ook in Rijssel gewerkt.
