In het Roermondse bevolkingsregister van 1880 werkt en woont Christiaan als knecht en winkelhulp bij de koopman/winkelier Frans Ernest Finken in de Neerstraat 131.

Het bevolkingsregister van 1890 stelt dat Christiaan met zijn gezin woont op de Schuitenberg 52, naast zijn schoonouders. Inwonend op dat adres is ook de familie van smid Joannes Hubertus Ronken, met acht personen. Christiaan is dan al arbeider bij het 'Waals Spoor' (moeilijk leesbaar in het archief).

Op 9 september 1896 vertrekt Christiaan met zijn gezin naar Tilburg. Spoorbeambten waren toen behoorlijk mobiel. Maar op 2 oktober 1899 woont hij alweer in Roermond, hoewel er als 'vorige woonplaats' genoemd wordt het juist over de Maas gelegen Baexem.
