    Charel werkte een tijdlang bij brouwerij Campina, bij "de Giet". Met paard en kar trok hij door het dorp alsook erbuiten om de cafées te bevoorraden. Hij dronk geregeld zijn pint en had geluk dat zijn paard altijd de weg naar huis wist, zelfs alleen. Charel draaide dan ook altijd zijn paard met de snuit richting huis. Soms kwam het paard alleen thuis, met de wagen met drank en de geldbeugel erop. In die tijd moest de geldbeugel bij de brouwerij in een soort brievenbus gestoken worden. Nooit was er iets tekort, het was altijd juist. Hij kreeg van de Giet drinkgeld om alzo klanten te maken in de cafées, redelijk wat als hij buiten het dorp moest bevoorraden, iets minder als hij zijn ronde in het dorp deed.
