Stamvader van het geslacht van Wassenaar. Vermeld in het jaar 1200 onder de getuigen bij het verdrag van graaf Dirk VII van Holland met hertog Hendrik 1 van Brabant. Hij steunde graaf Willem I in de Loonse oorlog 1204, trad in 1205 op als getuige bij de verkoop van 2 hoeven aan de abdij te Rijnsburg en zegelde in 1223 de schenkingsbrief, waarbij de weduwe van graaf Willem I aan deze abdij 50 Gld Hollands gaf, voor de ziel van haar overleden man.
