In tegenstelling tot vroegere genealogiën noemde hij zich nooit "van Strijen". Woonde in het huis "De Moriaen" te Strijen. Bezat een stede in Cromstrijen, schipper van Dordrecht 1588. Schepen van Strijen tussen 1589 en 1629, buurmeester 1588/89, 1600, heilige geestmeester 1602, stedehouder van Strijen 1619. Dijkgraaf en ingeland van de oude Klem 1622, gaarder der verpondingen tussen 1592 en 1608. Molenmeester van het Oude land van Strijen 1593, waarsman v.h. land van Es, etc 1604, van Oud-Strijen 1612. Zegelt als schepen van Strijen in 1610 met een wapen dat een adelaar vertoont, schildhouder: een griffioen. Koopt de helft van de Wind- en Rosmolen in Strijen in 1602 van de Domeinen. Jan Joosten liet 30 morgen land rond Strijen na met een waarde van ca. 25.000 gulden.

Hij trouwde met Jopgen Aryens, getrouwd 07.02.1588 in Dordrecht (Augustijnenkerk).
