Notes about Antonis Jan Adriaen Smolders

Anthonis Jan Adriaen Smolders heet soms ook 'De Keyser' (misschien van de gewoonte om de beste schutter van het gilde te benoemen tot 'keizer'?).

Reeds in 1521 pachtte hij zijn vaders hoeve in Goirle. Later bebouwde hij in Tilburg de herberg De Halve Maen. Ook bezat hij sinds 1530 de ouderlijke hoeve en gronden nabij de Steenen Camer te Tilburg.

Hij was deken van het gilde van het Sint-Barbara-altaar in 1536 (vander gulden van Sinte Barbaren autaer inder kercken van Tilborch), deken en provisor van het gilde van Sint-Petrus in dezelfde kerk in 1551
en directeur van dit gilde in 1578. Anthonis komt met zijn gezin in talloze akten voor.
