Het gebeurt niet iedere dag, dat er een meisje wordt geboren met de welluidende voornamen Maria Germana Oceana. In 1900 gebeurde dat in de buurt van Spanje. Op 30 april 1919 trouwden Carolus Joannes Panhuijsen met Maria Germana Oceana van Esch te Tilburg. De huwelijksakte vermeldt, dat de bruid 18 jaar oud is, en geboren op zee gedurende eene zeereis op het stoomschip German nummer honderd negen duizend tweehonderd negentig aan de Spaansche kust. Merkwaardig genoeg wordt geen geboortedatum vermeld. Deze blijkt echter uit de bevolkingsregisters van Tilburg. Zij is op 30 juli 1900 geboren. Het register van 1900-1910 vermeldt als geboorteplaats "op zee" (deel 1 blad 189). De registers van 1910-1920 en 1921-1939 vermelden als geboorteplaats "op zee SS German" (beiden deel 45 kaart 161). De bruid zal haar tweede voornaam te danken hebben aan de naam van het schip, waarop ze geboren is en de derde voornaam aan de Oceaan waarop het schip voer, toen zij geboren werd. Ik vermoed, dat deze voornamen in Nederland niet door een ambtenaar van de Burgerlijke Stand geaccepteerd zouden zijn. De huwelijksakte vermeldt verder, dat de echtelieden een zoon erkennen, geboren te Heerlen 22 december 1918 als Carolus Albertus van Esch, die op 2 januari 1919 te Heerlen door de moeder reeds is erkend. Het huwelijk is op 23 februari 1968 door echtscheiding ontbonden.
