Mr. Joseph Delbaere, who is an excellent local historician found out in Book 245 on the Archives of the Aldermen of Ieper that Marijn was the first Alderman of the county of Rumbeke from 1653 to 1659, the year in which he died. The office of first Alderman can be compared with the actual office of mayor.

Marijn was granted citizenship of the city of Roeselare in October 20, 1637

He seems have being a wealthy man:
Ath the occasion of his secund marriage (with Anna Wydooghe) he made on August 16, 1641 a contract of marriage, that was called an antenuptial contract although it was signed after marriage datum.

Inventory of Belongings Roeselare period:1631-1640, Book nr 927, record nr 67 December 14, 1638
Drafted at the occasion of the death of his fist wife Jacoba Roelens, deceased January 1, 1638
In this record it has been made clear that the couple owed " 16 gemet 383 roeden" or more than 7 ha ground. Apart from a small marsh the other grounds were farmland. In the opinion of Mr. Andries Favorel, historician, this was quite a lot taken into accountte primitive way in which the land has to be worked on at that time.
Their assets have been estimated up to140 "ponden grooten Vlams".
Mr. Johan Staessen explains that this corresponds at a market value of that time of 8.86 kg silver or 651 gr gold.

See also record nr 893/2 of April 19, 1643 - City Archives Roeselare "Vrijndelick verdeel ende partayghe" (En: Repartition by agreement) which fixes the repartition of the above mentioned belongings between himself and the childern born from his first wife and who were still living when their mother died.
