"In Westdorpe was men echter nog niet zo ver. Pas in 1882 werd er een oproep gedaan in de gemeente voor een onderwijzeres in nuttige handwerken. Er was hier niemand met een acte voor nuttige handen en Ludovica Bauwens, huisvrouw van Rudolph de Mul, deed een verzoek om in aanmerking te komen. Zij werd aangesteld per 1 oktober, er werd een schoollokaal voor haar beschikbaar gesteld, de maandag, woensdag en vrijdags telkens des middags van kwart over twaalf tot kwart over een. Bij de raad kwam in juni 1883 een klacht binnen van Desilé Buysse wegens mishandeling van zijn achtjarig dochtertje Elodie door de onderwijzer van Bijlevelt gepleegt. Er werd een onderzoek ingesteld. De raad was zeer ontevreden over Bijlevelt en bij herhaling van vergrijp zouden ze onmiddellijk maatregelen nemen. Een jaar nadien kwam wederom een klacht binnen tegen Bijlevelt. Hij zou het dochtertje van Ed. de Grof, Leonie, hebben mishandeld. Na ingesteld onderzoek is gebleken dat er geene mishandeling heeft plaats gehad, maar het voorgevallene is voort gekomen uit wangedrag van de leerlinge. De Grof werd terechtgewezen en het kind werd weer op school toegelaten. ook Prudent D'hert, zoon van Camilus, werd om wangedrag een week van school gestuurd."
