Die verhalen gaan waarschijnlijk over zijn vader Lieven De Bisschop, de schoonvader van mijn stamvader Hendrik Martens...

Er bestaat daarover een citaat:

L'importante famille De Bisschop, de Nukerke, Etikhove et environs, descend en majeure partie de Lievin De Bisschop, un curieux personnage, qui vivait à la fin du XVIe siècle et au début du XVIIe siècle, deux fois meurtrier dans la région de Nukerke. Un crime eut lieu à l'encontre d'un voleur de bûches qui appartenaient à Lievin. L'autre crime eut lieu, alors qu'il était déjà fort âgé, sur la route de Nukerke à Audenarde à l'encontre d'un jeune homme présomptueux qui lui faisait un procès. Il semble même qu'un troisième crime - de jeunesse - dans un cabaret doive lui être imputé à Ruiselede, village dont il serait originaire. Quoi qu'il en soit, il obtint à chaque fois des lettres de rémission des autorités civiles. On ne sait pas quelles furent les conséquences de ces meurtres au plan religieux, mais avec le nom qu'il portait (De Bisschop, ou "L'Evêque" en néerlandais), gageons qu'il reçu absolution pleine et entière, de sorte que tous ses nombreux descendants peuvent être rassurés. Sur ce personnage et sa descendance, on lira avec intérêt la généalogie De Bisschop, écrite par Marie-Rose Boutry-Debisschop, de Tourcoing, qui reproduit un fac-similé des lettres de rémission.
