Godefroid Henri Marie Joseph MAJOIE (Hilvarenbeek 1880-1949), begon in 1899 met een bescheiden handel in sigaren. Hij was in 1900 mede-oprichter van de sigarenfabriek Majoie & Van der Voort. De fabriek wordt gevestigd in een leegstaande vellenploterij in de Stedekestraat, nabij het Wilhelminapark in Tilburg. Na het uittreden van Edmond van der Voort zetten Godefroid en zijn broer Samuel het bedrijf op dezelfde voet voort onder de naam G. & S. Majoie. In 1917 wordt de firma omgezet in een naamloze venootschap, G. & S. Majoie's Sigarenfabrieken. In 1929 werd de naam veranderd in N.V. Gulden Vlies. Filiaalfabrieken worden opgericht in Lage Mierde (1912), Reusel (1913, gesloten in 1946), Hoge Mierde (1914), Eindhoven (1921, gesloten in 1927) en Hilvarenbeek (1946, gesloten in 1958). Godefroid blijft aan tot zijn overlijden in 1949. Acht jaar later wordt de produktie stopgezet en wordt de firma overgenomen door N.V. Alto Sigarenfabrieken te Turnhout. In 1973 verdwijnt de naam Majoie uit de boeken en wordt de N.V. in een besloten vennootschap omgezet, onder de naam Gulden Vlies Tabaksonderneming B.V., statutair gevestigd in Tilburg. Godefroid Majoie was in 1903 in Venlo getrouwd met Maria Josephina Hubertina van Wylick (Venlo 1879 - Goirle 1926) en in tweede huwelijk met Agnes M. J. J. Swagemakers (Tilburg 1900-1980).
