Gerardus Bruers werd geboren te Goirle op 20 januari 1865 als zoon van landbouwer Petrus Bruers en Johanna Schellekens. Hij trad in bij fraters van Tilburg en kreeg daar de kloosternaam frater M. Wilbertus. Op 20 januari 1896 verliet hij het klooster. Hij trouwde daarna met Petronella van Rooij uit Hilvarenbeek. Hij overleed te Goirle op 24 maart 1916 en was toen boerenarbeider van beroep.
