WO2 ; WOII ; Het gezin van A.J. van Broekhoven, opperwachtmeester te Goirle. De kinderen zittend op de voorgrond zijn Jos en Rinie van Broekhoven. Verder v.l.n.r. Rein van Broekhoven, Adrianus Johannes van Broekhoven geboren te Helvoirt op 26 juli 1905, Bert van Broekhoven, Petronella Helena Gijsberta van Rijsselberg, geboren te Oss op 24 juni 1905, en Jan van Broekhoven. Bert en Rein werden geboren in Bergen, de andere kinderen in Goirle. Het gezin kwam in juni 1936 vanuit Bergen naar Goirle, waar het eerst woonde aan de Molenstraat 80, later aan het Oranjeplein 59. Toen Van Broekhoven naar Goirle kwam was hij rijksveldwachter. Tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog kwam Van Broekhoven in het verzet terecht: hij werd een belangrijke schakel in de vluchtroute vanuit de Gelderse Achterhoek naar de Belgische grens. Hij bracht ontvluchtte Franse krijgsgevangen en geallieerde piloten over de grens, bood onderdak aan onderduikers, waarschuwde mensen die door de Duitsers gezocht werden en hielp bij het vervoer van clandestien geslachte varkens. Voor zijn verzetsactiviteiten ontving hij het Franse oorlogskruis met bronzen ster en het verzetsherdenkingskruis. Verder ontving hij Franse, Britse en Amerikaanse oorkonden vanwege zijn hulp aan piloten en krijgsgevangenen.
