    Tubercolose onstaat door besmetting van een bacterie.
    Het veroorzaakt een groot aantal ziektebeelden, nagelang de besmetting,algemene weerstand van het lichaam en de immuniteit van het individu. Degemiddelde besmettingsleeftijd wordt ook beinvloed door levensconditiesen hygenische omstandigheden.

    De kiem dringt het lichaam binnen via de ademhalingsorganen (TBC van delongen) of via de darm (TBC van de darm.)
    Deze eerste infectie verloopt vaak zonder bijverschijnsels. Bijverzwakte individuen kan ook de eerste infectie tot besmetting leiden.
    Tubercolose wordt beschouwd als een sociale ziekte. Het voorkomen vandeze ziekte wordt in hoge mate maatschappelijke toestanden bepaald.

    Uit bovenstaande kan geconcludeerd worden dan Maria Brabers quagezondheid een zwakke vrouw was. Ook de hygenie was in de tijd nog nietopperbest en zal dus ook een oorzaak kunnen zijn.
