Notes about Petrus Melius Roef

In 1894 is hij sigarenmaker.
In 1931 is hij sigarenfabrikant.

In het overzicht van de bedrijvigheid in Tilburg over 1900 en 1901 is de sigarenmakerij van een zekere Julius Wertheim opgenomen. Hierna ontbreekt deze in de jaarlijkse overzichten. Over een sigarendrogerij beschikte Wertheim zeker de eerste jaren niet.47)
Het Tilburgsch Adresboek voor het jaar 1900 vermeldt onder de categorie "Fabrikanten van Sigaren" behalve de hierboven genoemden: Jan Aarts, J. van Beek en J.B. Happel.
De laatste kleine onderneming die in de voorliggende inventarisatie is opgenomen, is de fabriek van Petrus Roef. Eind februari 1901 werd hem vergunning verleend om in de Piusstraat, op perceel sectie M 667, een fabriek annex sigarendrogerij op te richten.
Het was een klein bedrijf, waar voor ongeveer acht arbeiders werk zou zijn ngeweest. Veel groter is dit bedrijf niet geworden: in de meermalen aangehaalde tellingen kwam het niet voor.
