14 november 1821 trouwt Joanna Martens (19 jaar oud) in Utrecht met Cornelis Oomens. Via haar moeder, Cornelia Gresnigt (of Grasnigt) stamt Joanna af van een
bekende Utrechtse hoveniersfamilie.
In de zomer van 1866 zal zij, net als drie van haar ongetrouwde kinderen, sterven tijdens de laatste grote cholera epidemie
die in juni/juli 1866 woedde in Utrecht en daar meer dan 1.700 slachtoffers eiste.
Het echtpaar krijgt ook vijf kinderen die volwassen worden en trouwen.
