Jane en haar man Bob emigreerden naar Canada,hadden een farm in Dauphin/Manitoba. Jane werd beroemd door de vele artikelen die ze schreef gedurende 37 jaar (de 5 oorlogsjaren uitgezonderd) voor het Groningse dagblad "Het Nieuwsblad van het Noorden"en de lezingen die ze gaf tijdens haar bezoeken aan Holland. Ze was enorm populair. Ook schreef ze artikelen voor Canadese bladen en maakte zoveel naam dat het Amerikanse weekblad Time een artikel aan haar wijdde. De Canadese immigratie-autoriteiten zeiden dat dank zij haar colums en brieven niet minder dan 6500 Nederlanders - hoofdzakelijk mensen uit Groningen en Drente - naar Canada kwamen. Daarvoor kreeg ze in de zomer van 1993 een hoge onderscheiding van de Canadese regering.
Toen in 1939 haar eerste boek uitkwam, bedankte koningin Wilhelmina haar persoonlijk.
In haar in 1995 uitgekomen boek: "van de Canadeese velden" beschreef ze het leven van haar gezin in Canada.
