    In 1865 wordt hij geboren in het molenaarshuis aan het Leekstermeer. Hij is watermolenaar, visser en veehouder. Bij zijn huwelijk in 1887 en in 1890 is hij arbeider. Vanaf 19 maart 1894 wordt hij watermolenaar te Sebaldeburen. Hij bedient dande molen "De Eendracht". Na zijn dood wordt hij op 15 juni 1953 opgevolgd door zijn kleinzoon Engbert van Esch, die voorheen molenaar te Garrelsweer was. Laatstgenoemde doet dit werk tot maart 1956 en vertrekt dan naar Grootegast.
