Huwelijk: Roelof Berens en Gesien Derks. Op 1-11-1815 wordt in Nieuwe Pekela de echtscheidingsakte opgemaakt van het huwelijk dat in maart 1810 te Peize was gesloten tussen Roelf Berends Bathoorn en
Geesjen Derks. Geesjen Derks is dan gepatenteerde inlands kramerske te Nieuwe Pekela en heeft de echtscheiding aangevraagd bij de rechtbank te Winschoten omdat Roelf Berends Bathoorn een eerloos maken
de straf ondergaat in het Provinciale Tuchthuis te Groningen. Hij was op 4-12-1812 evenals zijn vader veroordeeld door het Hof van Assises te Groningen tot 6 jaar tuchthuis wegens het vervoeren van ge
stolen lammeren. Blijkbaar is Geesjen toen teruggekeerd naar Nieuwe Pekela, waar anderhalve week later zoon Derk wordt geboren. De echtelieden hebben zich later verzoend, want in 1818 wordt in Oude P
ekela zoon Harm geboren, aangeven door de vader onder de naam Roelf Berends van Peise. In 1821 geeft Roelf de geboorte van zoon Berend aan onder de naam Van Peize, waarbij bovendien wordt vermeld dat
het kind in egte is verwekt bij Geesjen Derks, al is niet gebleken dat zij formeel zijn hertrouwd. Daarna worden nog meer kinderen geboren in Peize, aanvankelijk onder de naam Bathoren, later als Bath
oorn.
