Notes about Jacob MOEIJELIJCKER

(Jacob zal te Reimerswaal gewoond hebben. Reimerswaal, Reimarswaal, Remburswale of Roermerswaal
ontstond op het gebied dat thans het Verdronken Land van Zuid Beverland (of van Reimerswaal)
heet, maar destijds aan Zuid Beverland vast zat. De plaats wordt in 1258 voor het eerst vermeld;
zij kreeg in 1374 stadsrechten. Reimerswaal kwam vooral door haar zoutnering tot welvaart en was
na Middelburg en Zierikzee, de derde stad van Zeeland.Sinds 1530 werd de stad herhaaldelijk
geteisterd door hoge watervloeden die haar van Zuid Beverland scheidden en haar territorium
zozeer deed inkrimpen dat ze sinds 1564 niet meer was dan een omwald eilandje. Reimerswaal had in
1572 en 1573 te lijden door plunderingen door de watergeuzen die zich er nestelden en door
Spanjaarden die de stad heroverden.)
