Een hartich man ende streng justicier dies hij oock quaet Aertje toegenaempt werde, den huyse van Bourgongne toegedaen ende aengenaem. Trok aan het hoofd van vele burgers op tegen jonker Frans van Brederode doch werd 6 maart 1488 te overshcie door dezen verslagen. Als boer vermomd ontkwam hjij. Wegens deze redding en voor de rust der zielen van de gesneuvelden waaronder zijn zoon Lodewijk, stihctte hij een eeuwig jaargetijde. Geduren zijn schoutambt bezocht keizer Maximiliaan, bij wien hij in hooge gunst stond, de stad Delft en werd de toren van de nieuwe kerk aldaar voltooid. Ter herinnering daaraan werd in een steen aan een der acht geveld boven aan den toren op den hoogsten trans ten noordwesten dit versje gehouwen:
Arent Vranck was schout van deze stede
doe men dit werck meacte dat is claer
hy regeerde Delff in pays ende vrede
Ende hadde toen Scout geweest 39 jaar
Ende bleef noch Schouts dat kennelyck en waer
Want 't God beliefde tot hem de dood ontrieffde
