Notes about X Theodosius II

Regeerde van 408 tot 450, volgde als zevenjarig kind zijn vader Arcadius, als keizer van het ost
Romeinse vrijk op onder voogdij van Anthemius. Toen deze in 414 gestorven was werd Pulcheria, de
vrome zuster van Theodosius, tot Augusta verheven, die ook nadat de keizer volwassen geworden was
in feite de heerschappij bleef voeren. In 421 huwde Theodosius Anthenais, als chriten Eudokia
genoemd, die Pulcheria van haar invloed beroofde. Hun dochter Eudoxia werd uitgehuwlijkt aan
keizer Valantianus IIIvan het West Romeinse Rijk. De Codex Theodosianus, het eerste officiele
keizerlijk wetboek, dat in 438 het licht zag, werd naar hem genoemd. Hij stichtte verder in
Constantinopel een universiteit.
