Notes about Dagobert van AUSTRASIE

Hij was Koning van Austrasië(676(4)-679). Bij de dood van zijn vader in 656 werd hem de troon
ontnomen door hofmeier Grimoald. Deze liet Dagobert de kruin scheren en interneerde hem in een
Ierse abdij. De onderlinge strijd tussen de Frankische rijksgroten verplichtte hem de banneling
terug te roepen. Deze werd als koning erkent in Austrasië en in het Austrasische gedeelte van
Aquitanië en in de Provence. In Neustrië werd hij evenwel als verdacht avonturier beschouwd. De
oorlog met Theodorik III, koning van Neustrië, bleef dan ook niet uit en hij werd op bevel van
Pippijn de Dikke tijdens een jachtpartij in het bos van Woëvre, bij Stenay vermoord. Hij was
eerder gehuwd met Mathilde van Ierland(±655-670).
