Bij aankomst in Auschwitz op 17 Augustus 1942 was hij 52 jaar en zeker is dat hij het kamp is binnengekomen, waar hij het gevangenennummer 48178 kreeg. Ongetwijfeld zal hij op de een of andere wijze nog iets van dwangarbeid hebben moeten doen maar uit de “Sterbücher” van Auschwitz is gebleken dat David Mozes de Jong al een week later, op 25 Augustus 1942 om het leven is gebracht.

    Deze datum wijkt af van de officiële sterfdatum van 30 September 1942 zoals na de oorlog officieel is vastgesteld door het Ministerie van Justitie, en vastgelegd is in zijn overlijdensakte folio v3-103, nr.1950-2950 van 22 September 1950, welke is opgemaakt door de Gemeente Rotterdam, en zoals deze op het Joods Monument vermeld is.
