Notes about Maarten Visscher

Toos zal aan een nierontsteking overlijden en haar man Maarten leidt dan nog ruim 15 jaar een min of meer teruggetrokken bestaan als een eenzelvig, zwijgzaam man.
Maarten was op 14 jarige leeftijd naar zee vertrokken als gewoon matroos. Naar Atjeh, hij was erbij toen in 1883 de vulkaan Krakatau uitbarstte. Van Toos had hij moeten kiezen of de zee of trouwen met haar. Hij werd politieagent. Later klerk in het Rijksarchief van de provincie Overijssel. Zijn hele leven is hij blijven griepen over het gemis van de zee. Het Rijksarchief was toen gehuisvest in de Sassenpoort,Kleindochter Kitty (dochter van Gerard) glipte als klein meisje door een klein deurtje in de toren naar beneden waar haar grootvader in de kelder aan het rommelen was met paperassen.
