Charles Foster Doornbos (Fos), lifelong resident of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, died Tuesday, October 24, 2006 in Sedona, Arizona. Fos was born in Bartlesville, Oklahoma on July 25, 1934 to Ruth Foster Doornbos and Charles Wilson Doornbos. He graduated from College High School in 1952, where he had been a varsity football and golf team member. Fos attended the University of Oklahoma and was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. He married Kay Adams of Clinton, Oklahoma in August of 1956, and together they had four daughters, Darian, Elaine, Diane, and Dana. He earned his Bachelors of Science Degree in Geology from OU in the Spring of 1957. After graduating from college, Fos joined the Marine Corps, where he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant. He served three years, was promoted to 1st Lieutenant and served as a Battery Commander. In 1960, the Doornbos family returned to Bartlesville where Fos accepted a position with Foster Petroleum Corporation, his family's business. He continued in that capacity until 1990, serving as its President. In 1977, Fos married Linda Kay Johnson, with whom he had his fifth daughter, Sydney. From 1990, he managed the Charles F. Doornbos Revocable Trust from his offices in Bartlesville. The Trust is active in the management of oil and gas properties and continues under the management of his daughters. Fos married Patricia Gilliland on March 15, 2002, in Laughlin, Nevada, and they made their home in Bartlesville. He is survived by his wife, Patricia, of the home, his sisters, Ann Marie Preston of Memphis, Tennessee, and Jeanne Doornbos Mahr of Houston, Texas, his brother, Phillip Doornbos of Paradise Valley, Arizona, his four daughters, Darian Kedy, Diane Doornbos, Dana Keirsey, all of the Bartlesville area, and Sydney Beal, Huntington Beach, California, six grandchildren, one great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Elaine. Fos was active in the community, supporting many organizations and activities. He was former director of the Oklahoma University Alumni Association of Bartlesville, a member of the Bartlesville Chamber of Commerce, a member of Mid-Continent Oil and Gas Association, and member of the Independent Petroleum Association of America. He was a member of the OU Alumni Association and an active supporter of the University. He was loved by many and will be sorely missed by those who loved him, and whom he loved. Services will be held Monday, October 30, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, in Bartlesville. Contributions may be made in his memory to the Washington County SPCA.
