Hij werd geïncardineerd in het aartsbisdom Mechelen op 15 september 1943 en priester gewijd te Mechelen op 27 juli 1947. Op 8 december 1961 werd het bisdom Antwerpen heropgericht, en op 14 april 1962 werd Jan geïncardineerd in dat bisdom. Hij was leraar aan het Sint-Lievenscollege te Antwerpen van 1947 tot 1965 en in die periode ook proost in de KSA. Hij was leraar aan het Sint-Jan Berchmanscollege te Malle van 1947 tot 1965 en pastoor van de parochie Sint-Adrianus te Ravels-Eel van 1968 tot 1997. Zijn laatste jaren bracht hij door in het Home O.L.V. van de Kempen in Ravels. De plechtige uitvaartmis was in de kerk van Sint-Adrianus te Ravels-Eel op zaterdag 8 november 2008 om 10 uur, waarna de teraardebestelling volgde op de begraafplaats Nazareth, Steenweg op Merksplas, te Turnhout.
