Van 25 mei tot en met 28 mei 1912 zat hij een straf uit in de gevangenis van Eindhoven. Hij was volgens het gevangenisregister daartoe veroordeeld door het kantongerecht aldaar op 3 januari, waarbij als reden wordt vermeld "Leerplichtwet". Wellicht hield hij zijn kinderen van school? Hij was toen 51 jaar oud en had lager onderwijs genoten. In het register staat ook een beschrijving van zijn uiterlijk.
