Notes about Philine Hendrika Cornelia "Pien" Sigling

Pien was een mooie blonde vrouw met krullen. Geboren met chronische bronchitis. Ze werd te Breda op stand opgevoed als een kasplantje zonder echte kinderpret. Op haar 13e, na de scheiding van haar ouders, leefde ze met zusje Cox en moeder Neltje op “genade geld” van vrienden (er was toen nog geen alimentatie). Eerst op een etage in de Haag en later in Haarlem. Pien werkte als telefoniste en woonde tot haar trouwen bij haar moeder. Voor Pien waren er veel privé spanningen, omdat zij laveren moest tussen de uiteenlopende begripswerelden van haar eigen familie en die van haar echtgenoot. Pien’s gezondheid ging na de geboorte van haar 2e kind (Gerda) razendsnel achteruit. Ze kreeg, naast haar chronische bronchitis, een darmziekte die veel later als de ziekte van Crohn bekend zou staan. Daardoor verbleef ze vaak in het ziekenhuis en droogde sterk uit. Op zondagen werd steeds de natuur opgezocht en gewandeld, dat deed haar gezondheid veel goed. Ze overleed uiteindelijk aan kanker op 12 -11-1975 in het Lucasziekenhuis in Amsterdam.
