    Eric Cornelis Winkler of Eugene died June 5 2005 of age-related causes. He was 83. A memorial service has been held. Winkler was born March 1, 1922, in Jakarta, Indonesia, to Cornelis and Dorothea Coon- Winkler. He married Elaine Uphoff on Dec. 2, 1986, in South Lake Tahoe, Calif. He moved to the United States as an infant. He later served in the Army in World War II in the Pacific Theater. Winkler was a deputy agricultural commissioner for the State of California for 31 years. He held a master of science degree. He had lived in Eugene since 1989 and previously lived in San Jose, Calif. Winkler belonged to the Eugene Gleemen and an alumni group of the University of California at Berkeley(body, education) University of California at Berkeley - (UCB) He enjoyed singing, camping, hiking, travel, fishing and bicycling. His family said he loved to read. He is survived by his wife; four children, all of the Bay Area in California; two stepdaughters; and four grandchildren bron: The Register-Guard (Eugene, OR) dd. 22 juni 2005
